A Tempo 2023: A Night To Remember

Filled with a variety of snazzy songs from famous films, A Tempo 2023, Raffles Symphonic Band’s annual concert, was a feast for the ears. This was the Band’s 30th A Tempo and the first A Tempo to take place in an external venue ever since the pandemic.

For this year’s A Tempo, also known as Raffles Symphonic Band’s annual concert, there was a great squeeze for time. Not only was this their first concert at an external venue since the pandemic, but it was also the first time in decades that the Band had decided to perform at the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF).

Why was Math class so long? The teacher kept going off on a tangent!

Luckily for the audience, “Mathemagician” Professor Arthur Benjamin went off tangent plenty during his sharing on 24 March 2023 in LT2 (the location had been changed to fit the sheer number of people who had signed up)—at least in relation to the JC Mathematics syllabus. In a world where many people see mathematics as dry and uninteresting, Professor Benjamin had done the seemingly impossible: found a way to make it exciting.

For Faith Ho (22A01A), getting to know stories from communities outside of her own has always been the core of her motivation for service. A narrative-driven person, she feels that stories are the bridges between people. “I’ve always wanted to get out of the bubble I was in. In JC, we’re often caught up with schoolwork and commitments, but there’s a much bigger world out there and it’s worth it to step out and talk to different people.”
