CCA Previews ’23: Sailing

When you think of sailing, what comes to mind? Popeye the Sailor Man, or Pirates of the Caribbean? Take this mental image of a sailboat, shrink it and paint the boat white; now you’ve got yourself picturing a modern sailboat! 🤩 We want to put it out there — sailing is not the same as canoeing or dragon-boating, contrary to popular belief. Performing the rowing action and claiming that it is sailing in front of a sailor is a foolproof way of rocking the boat!

CCA Previews ’23: Table Tennis

The atmosphere freezes as everyone holds their breath. The final point. The point that would earn us the victory. The point that would allow us to stand the highest on the podium. The ball is served and it flashes back and forth, with both players keeping up with immense speed, reflexes and agility. With the final swing, the Rafflesian puts in all his strength onto the ball. One bounce on the other side of the table, and the ball lands on the floor. The stadium erupts into chaos and deafening cheers as his teammates rush into the court, embracing the player with such enthusiasm that makes it hard for him to breathe.

CCA Previews ’23: Recreational Badminton

For many of us, physical activities, especially in the form of sports, are an indispensable part of our lives. Everyone stands to gain much from sports, be it a team sport like football, martial arts such as taekwondo, or even more skill based sports such as bowling. 

Some play to give our body the regular pump it needs to stay fit as a fiddle, while others play to seek an adrenaline rush, or for numerous other reasons.. This is why all kinds of people are welcome at Recreational Badminton, or RecBad, as more fondly known by its members.

CCA Previews ‘23: Sports Recreation Club

Sports Recreational Club is a CCA where we learn and play many different sports. We conduct PE-like modules, where members have the chance to experience and develop interests in the respective sports. Members can pick the sports they wish to experience through a vote that is conducted after every module.

CCA Previews ’23: Tennis

What comes to mind when you think about tennis? Is it just chasing a ball with a racket? Non-tennis players like to crack this joke, and it  couldn’t be further from the truth. Tennis is a beautiful game which puts every aspect of an individual to the test. It is a holistic sport which builds players physically, mentally, and emotionally. When playing a game of tennis, every muscle works hard. Your legs explode to sprint for the ball while your abdominals join your arms to whack the ball at your opponent. Additionally, don’t forget the mental muscle: tennis is highly strategic and requires a sound tactical mind.
