The Pressure to Be Extraordinary

Every year, approximately half of the Year 6 cohort score distinctions for all 4 H2 A Level subjects, and a quarter achieve a perfect University Admission Score. It would be a lie to say that most students do not feel a pressure to be part of these annual statistics, to be contributors towards the exemplary results that are often associated with the Raffles name.

Unearthed Treasure: Poetry Through the Eyes of Cyril Wong

You might have spotted his name lodged between headlines in The Straits Times. Or perhaps you, or someone you know, frequent literary events such as the annual Singapore Writer’s Festival. But if you have been keeping up with the news on Singapore’s literary scene, then you would definitely have read about esteemed Singaporean poet, Cyril Wong.

Dubbed as Singapore’s “first confessional poet”, Mr Wong has numerous accolades under his belt. One could easily presume that a person as revered as Mr Wong would take on a lofty persona. However, as those who attended his talk hosted here in RI would have discovered, this is far from the truth.

From the Stars to the Sunrise: No Day But Today

The Broadway Babies are nothing short of a miracle — having started out as a small Lit Night act of approximately 10 members, they have grown tremendously into a full musical troupe complete with ensemble and live orchestra, with over 40 members.

It is definitely no surprise, then, that their flagship production, No Day But Today, drew crowds of people to witness their pure talent and sold out three shows. The audience’s time was well-spent — this labour of love was excellent all around, showcasing both gorgeous singing and gorgeous production. Each Broadway tune was given a fresh twist, combining unique settings with familiar melodies. With a mix of ensemble pieces and solo acts, as well as a phenomenal live orchestra, the performances were absolutely stunning.
