Raffles Modern Dance is a close-knit family consisting of dancers who train, perform, and grow together. More than just a place to nurture your dance skills and further your artistic interests, Raffles Modern Dance is a warm and welcoming home where dancers can learn together and forge long-lasting friendships.
Passionate about dance, we explore, appreciate and deepen our understanding of contemporary dance under the tutelage of our teachers, Ms Low Mei Yoke (Artistic Director of Frontier Danceland) and Mr Goh Shou Yi (Dance Artist in T.H.E Second Company). Dancers are also encouraged to attend productions presented by contemporary dance companies to increase our exposure to contemporary dance.
Our CCA is typically held for 2 hours on Mondays (4.15-6.15pm) and 3 hours on Wednesdays (2.30-5.30pm). Our CCA practice sessions integrate contemporary dance techniques, improvisation, presentation, and the unique dance styles of our instructors. As we develop our technique and improvisation skills, we widen our perspective and learn new ways of approaching movement. Through preparing for performances, we also experience the process of choreographing and blocking our very own contemporary dance item.
In recent years, Raffles Modern Dance has achieved Distinction in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) competition in both 2015 and 2017, with pieces titled “Undercurrent” and “Passing” respectively.
Last year, Raffles Modern Dance started the year off with a performance during Open House. The highlight of the year was Luminescence, a showcase to the school ·which marked the seniors’ last performance and the juniors’ first. Following which, we performed for Teacher’s Day. Currently, we are preparing for Open House and SYF, which will take place in April 2019.
For trials, everyone is welcome to sign up! No prior dancing experience is required, only an open mind and burning passion!
Should you become a member of Modern Dance, your performance opportunities include SYF, Teacher’s Day, Open House, and Showcase* to officially end your journey. Other possible opportunities include Batch Night, Grad Night, Homecoming, guest performers for other concerts/events and external charity concerts and VIA opportunities.
No matter whether you’re an experienced dancer or you just like grooving in your room, we warmly welcome you, dancers one and all, to join this family!
