Kammermusik was a performance that reminded us of the warm spirit of live performances. Indeed, this spirit manifested itself as good-natured chuckles that encouraged Chamber Ensemble after an aborted start. The players quickly found their groove and performed smoothly and assuredly — a tone maintained by all performers that day.

Koh Buck Song’s Around the World in 68 Days is a travelogue featuring 13 countries he visited in the span of 68 days in 2018, the golden days pre-Covid-19. Around the World promises “insights into 13 countries’ ancient and modern cultures, national identities and brands, and their place in the world today”.

The 13 stations of Koh’s voyage.

Around the World is easily intriguing for anyone who stumbles across it in a bookstore: what better way to cure wanderlust than to read about another person’s travels, especially with an itinerary as extensive and unconventional as Koh’s? As an experienced national brand advisor, Koh’s book also offers more than a mere collection of #travelholic moments.

After being unable to hold concerts for the past two years due to the pandemic, Raffles Institution Piano Ensemble (RIPE) returned in style on May 17, 2022. Audience members were greeted with glittering star-themed decorations, which transformed LT2 into a celestial space—a hint of the dazzling performances to come.

“As we were unable to have a concert last year […] we were more motivated than usual to perform our best in front of a live audience.”

Roger Zhang (22S06D)

The concert, performed by the graduating batch of RIPE, centred around the story of a Little Prince exploring the stars and Earth (with the eponymous title “Ad Astra”).

ARTseason Returns to RI

By Tang Lanyun (23S05A)

Amidst the tropical showers of May, the previously dormant RI arts scene sprang back to life in an explosion of colour. The next two weeks saw a flourish of showcases and displays by the various arts CCAs, with the Arts Assembly on the 5th of May properly kicking things off.

As we all scrambled to identify our classmates on the projector screens, we were treated to a myriad of dazzling performances that synthesised both the technical and the emotive. Infused with good humour from the emcees, as well as insights into the inner workings of the performing arts CCAS, the Assembly was a truly wondrous showcase of the talents RI had in store. The CCAs featured were Modern Dance, Guitar Ensemble, Chorale, Players and Jazz.
