Pressing Ahead 2024: A Review

The Heart of the Story

It was a Saturday morning, yet it felt like a Tuesday. Crawling out of bed at 6 am to travel to school gave us the impression that it would be a typical school day. But we weren’t going to school for tutorial lessons. We were instead about to attend Raffles Press’ annual event–Pressing Ahead.

In 2024, Pressing Ahead marks its 8th year. For us Year 5s who joined the CCA just a few months ago, however, this would mark the first-ever event we would attend as part of the CCA.

On 4 August, Friday, the Multi-Purpose Hall was brought to life for an ‘out-of-this-world’ event: Astronite. Traditionally hosted by Raffles Institution’s Astronomy club, the annual soiree is where aspiring astronomers and stargazing enthusiasts come together as students to discuss and better appreciate astronomy outside of the school curriculum together.

Memento Mori, Memento Vita: An Evening to Remember

What would you do if you were locked in a room with a zombie?

That was one of the questions Raffles Film Society set out to answer on 28 July 2023, during their annual film showcase.

Following the theme “Memento Mori, Memento Vita”, the showcase focused on remembering the inevitability of death whilst remembering life. The films and documentaries explored this wide spectrum of themes – from exploring Singapore’s hidden gems to literal death. This evening was a culmination of the Y6s’ hard work, for them to finally present their passion projects to an audience.

Raffles Runway RPROJ’22 – AEON

Mesmerising mood lighting, glittering makeup, colourful fabric galore – if you walked past the canteen from 22nd to 29th July, you may have seen a cinematically-shot film showcasing fashion designs. From elegant gowns to cyberpunk streetwear, the quality and range of this collection rivalled the likes of international Fashion Weeks. This year, Runway’s Batch of 2022 presents their labour of love: Aeon.
