“Whoa, there was a theatre behind Hodge Lodge this whole time?” These were the exact words of Edna Lim (22S03F), taking her first steps into the Hodge Lodge theatre.

On a quiet afternoon of 4th May, a gap Wednesday, Rafflesians streamed into a relatively unassuming room beyond the main lounge area of the Hodge Lodge. H(ODD)GE L(ODD)GE marked the event’s revival after a COVID-19 induced hiatus. The (bi)annual event serves as a means for the school community to enjoy Film Society curated films, and learn more about the craft during discussion segments.

To participants’ pleasant surprise, 40 plush, rich velvet red chairs invited them in. Quickly getting comfortable, they were about to find themselves tickled, perhaps even outright baffled, by the four experimental films lined up.

In their annual batch project, “Consumer Class”, Community Advocates aims to provide students a full rundown of all the vital information we need to know to get on board the expressway to a Zero Waste Nation.

Raffles Debate Academy Under-14 Debating Championships 2021

What do you call two people arguing in a sauna? 

A heated debate. 

However, in the local secondary school debate circuits, things are admittedly less heated. This year, the Raffles Debate Academy Under-14 Debating Championship (known informally as RDAs) took place on 29 and 30 May, seeing 32 secondary schools participate in this annual competition organised by Raffles Institution. 

Helmed by the ‘20-’21 Raffles Debaters Exco and their teachers-in-charge, Ms Umarani, Mr Ashton Tan and Ms Nicole Magno, the competition made its comeback online after a one-year hiatus.

Writers’ Guild Anthology ’20: [lacuna]

The space between two words on a page. The one-metre social distancing gap. The gaps in history and governance. These are just some manifestations of lacuna, the theme of the Writers’ Guild Anthology ’20.

The word itself has an aesthetic appeal reminiscent of dreamy lunar imagery. In truth, the dictionary definition of lacuna is simple: a blank space or a missing part. A gap. But it is the beautiful simplicity of the word that made the wondrous interpretations compiled in this anthology possible.
