Gavel? Isn’t that the law club?

(Un)fortunately, Gavel isn’t a club affiliated to any prestigious law school, nor do we spend our sessions learning the penal code by heart. 

In actuality, Gavel Club is a subsidiary of Toastmasters International, an organisation that aims to empower individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders. At Gavel, we build members up to become confident speakers and people. Through a plethora of oratorical drills and impromptu speeches, Gaveliers are able to hone the many qualities needed to become an articulate speaker.

CCA Previews ’22: Raffles Community Advocates

Think “Sandbox” from the Korean drama Start-Up (looking at you, Korean drama lovers!) but for service and advocacy projects instead of tech-startups, where you can interact with and advocate for a multitude of communities and causes that you believe in. Join us at Community Advocates (CA), and you may be able to do just that! Here in CA, we recognise that given our position of privilege, the onus lies on us to serve and advocate for communities that remain hidden from sight and relegated to the backseat as we attempt to cope with our own hectic daily lives.

About us:

Raffles Modern Dance is a bonded community (for illustration purposes: you can imagine bonds as strong as covalent bonds in diamond) consisting of a group of dancers who explore, appreciate and deepen our understanding of contemporary dance together.  Our instructor Mr Goh Shou Yi not only teaches us about the intricacies of Dance, but also about body awareness when dancing. Under his guidance, dancers grow into passionate and confident individuals.

Jazz: what is it like?

What is Jazz, you may ask? That’s hard to define. Jazz is music, but with extra seasoning and a whole lot of spice. Who can reject that? Jazz might seem like a foreign, or even intimidating term to some of you, yet it is in fact commonly observable in daily life. From the music playing at MRT stations during your commute to school, to the lofi girl you listen to when you study, jazz is everywhere!
