Although three and a half days of Orientation had already passed, the most anticipated event had yet to happen: O’Nite, the closing of Soleil 2017.

Just as each new day begins with the rising of the sun, the journey of every new Year 5 batch begins with Orientation, which took place this year on 3rd February. In line with this year’s theme of Soleil, the walls of the Multi-Purpose Hall were decorated with glittering sun cutouts and bright gold letters, cheerfully greeting the crowds of new students nervous for their first day of Orientation.

Mental health is an often overlooked but vital aspect of health and wellbeing. With the introduction of the Peer Helper’s Programme and Mental Health Awareness Week in recent years, there is no doubt that efforts have been made to create a platform for mental health education in RI.
This year at the Raffles Science Symposium, the Raffles Guidance Centre extended this platform further, showcasing their own Mental Health strand for the first time. With a variety of speakers and visitors from other schools, this was a diverse beginning to this new RSS strand.

You’ve heard tales from seniors about the OGs that stick together all the way until graduation. You’ve heard about the anticipation of finding out who your other OG mates are. You’ve seen the Youtube video of the batch dance, perhaps wondering what your own partner dynamics would be like. We’re talking, of course, about Orientation – the first chapter, the springboard into a vibrant, dynamic life in JC.

Regardless of our backgrounds, most, if not all of us, want to make the best of our last 2 years in uniform. In this sense, JC presents to us endless possibilities and opportunities.
