Raffles… Malay Cultural Society? Haven’t heard of us? It’s been a little quiet since COVID brought us down, but we have so much in store. With sessions held in our school’s MLEP room, MCS offers you the opportunity to learn about Malay culture and arts, but most of all we provide you with a community—a place to strengthen bonds and find a family you can always fall back on.
No prior experience in the field of Malay arts is required to join us—everyone here is here to try new things together and enjoy the process. Want a go at classic Malay performing arts such as Dikir Barat, Angklung, and more? Hoping to do some Batik painting or traditional basket weaving? Or maybe you’d prefer the rigour of Malay martial arts such as Silat? MCS is here to provide those opportunities for you!
We do compete in different competitions and tournaments throughout the year—we were champions of the National Malay Debate Competition BAHAS4PM in 2021 and finished in the top 4 in 2022. Those interested in taking part in such competitions will be given full support to do so: just approach one of our super friendly teachers-in-charge, Mr Kamal or Cikgu Ali!
Spreading the joy of festive seasons as well, we hold annual Iftar sessions to eat together during Ramadan and plan a big party to celebrate Hari Raya. Join us and get glam in your traditional outfits and enjoy good food!
MCS meets once a week, every other Thursday from 4:30-6:30pm in the MLEP room. We look forward to welcoming you to our CCA!
