The whistle blows and they stumble out of court, breathless after a phenomenal 4-1 win against Tampines Meridian JC. They’re officially semis-bound! What was just a far-off dream for the batches before became a reality with the Floorball Girls’ team this year.

For a developmental CCA with no DSAs, they have always been disadvantaged in the nation-wide competition. Ranging from 1.5 years to just a few months of experience, each girl learnt the sport right from the ground up, going into every practice with the “underdog mentality”: always driven, always dedicated, and always going out of their way to seek guidance and improve.

For them to make it this far was truly, in the words of the EXCO, a “dream come true.” They are all fighters who battled their way to the top when many others thought they couldn’t, being each other’s pillars of support through thick and thin. And now finally, the scoreboard tells the same story.

In the 2026 NSG season, RI’s girls’ tennis team has once again overcome the odds and found themselves in the finals against year-long rivals—Anglo-Chinese School (Independent).

Just as the year before, the stands were split into two halves, the atmosphere tense with anticipation as the players slowly streamed into the courts below. The dim glow of the overhead lights and the excited buzz among the spectators only added to the growing tension. Three courts, side by side, would decide the outcome of this championship.

RI Faces VJC for the Title

For the first time in more than a decade, the girls’ football team of Raffles Institution (RI) walked onto the National School Games A Division final stage with a shot at ending a dynasty.

Standing opposite them was Victoria Junior College (VJC), football giants, champions for the past 11 years and a perennial title contender. RI would eventually fall short in the final, but their run to the championship match had already marked a dramatic turnaround for a team that had not progressed beyond the group stages in recent years.

To many outsiders, RI’s meteoric rise may have seemed sudden. Within the team, however, players had long believed that they were capable of reaching the final.

After a fiercely contested match against Victoria Junior College (VJC), RI emerged victorious in a dramatic shootout, reclaiming the national title for the first time in over a decade.

Just weeks earlier, the same team had suffered a 3-0 defeat to VJC during the round robin stage. For many, the result reinforced VJC’s reputation as one of the strongest teams in the A Division competition. For RI, however, this temporary loss offered direction.
