A fundraising concert will be organised by Team Laos of ISLE to raise funds for its cause of serving the villagers of Na’ Khom Village (2nd Inner Village), Pa’ Bong Muncipality, HinHeub District, Vientiane Province, Lao PDR.

100% of the funds raised will be channelled to achieve the following tentative objectives of our Overseas Service Learning Project:

  • Build Water Collection Point and Fund Construction of Water Source for Na’Khom Village
  • Enrichment and Education Programmes for the younger villagers as well as the educators of the school

The ISLE Laos Concert will be held on 15th August 2014, 1900hrs to 2130hrs at RI PAC. This year, we hope to achieve a concert that is lively and cheerful, titled ‘Where Dreams Come True’.  This ties in closely with our goal of bringing hope and empowerment to a rural village in Laos through the construction of facilities that enable the villagers to live more self-sufficiently and safely, with sanitation and access to basic necessities such as water.

Sneak Preview | What to Expect:

Be induced into the state of dreaming as Chinese Orchestra presents their very own arrangement of a Frozen medley arranged by their alumni and consisting of the popular tunes like Do You Wanna Build a Snowman and Frozen Heart. This is followed by Bengawan Solo and Matsuri.

Guitar Ensemble will then lead us to Somewhere Over the Rainbow, journeying throughout the English County Garden, listening to the tunes of Calypso and eventually Counting Stars in the amazing night sky.

Chamber Ensemble will then manoeuvre elegantly through time, starting with the First Movements of Rossini to the modern era of a Movie Medley, allowing us to appreciate a Good Day.

Rocking us away with the well known tunes of Coldplay, Paramore, Of Monsters and Men, Pharrell Williams and Two Door Cinema Club, Raffles Rock first questions what you know before attempting to Fix You from the state of vanquished dreams, bringing out the Monster in your dreams, providing the Little Talks required to pursue a Happy life.

Raffles Jazz will ensure you continue Feeling Good with their awesome instrumental jazz standard Bag’s Groove, all sung by their very own Nature Boy (which also happens to be a Latin rendition inspired by Casey Abrams).

RGS International-Dance Alumni brings us back to the moments which leave indelible imprints on our hearts, moments which stay Gold Forever.

IHC Sports 2014 drew to a close on Thursday, with BB coming out tops, followed by BW, MR, HH, and MT in that order. The season has certainly been a great opportunity for Rafflesians to try new sports and catch up with their OG-mates. Raffles Press would like to thank CCAD, the IHC Sports I/Cs, Clara Chua, Fu Xinyi and Low Yi Fen, as well as all Raffles Photographers for their tireless efforts over the course of Destemido, and wishes all houses the very best for IHC Remix 2015!

As the days creep ever closer to the 9th of August, we begin to go through the same pre-celebration routine that we always see. Red and white flags plaster HDB flats, large billboards of men and women in white smile from along the roads, and the hotels around the CBD fill up as people try to catch a free glimpse of fireworks. We stand on the eve of our 49th anniversary of Singapore’s independence, and while Singapore is still going strong nearly 50 years on, I play devil’s advocate and propose that Singapore has certain deficiencies in terms of being a nation and country.

Eating Bishan: Part 1

Arguably, one of the best things about our school’s location is the wealth of dining options available nearby. From the highly commercialised food franchises in popular student haunts like Nex and Junction 8 to the quaint cafes along Upper Thomson Road, one is spoiled for choice when deciding something so deceptively simple as one’s choice of cuisine. In this article, we focus primarily on introducing some of the more noteworthy stalls in the vicinity, with an emphasis on affordability. Many of these stalls deserve plaudits for their ability to dish up high-quality traditional local fare whilst remaining light on one’s finances, so do consider adding them to your list of after-school hangouts. Nonetheless, not all of the shops we reviewed turned out to be culinary jewels, so you may wish to patronise them with a hefty dose of pessimism in mind.
