The crowd is tense, almost silent. Anticipation hangs thick in the air, hot, but every spectator is unminding.

All eyes are fixed on the player balancing the ball between her palms, carefully, as if she holds the fate of the game in her hands.

Perhaps she does. A cacophony of voices surges as the ball contacts the grass once, then whirls in a series of graceful tosses between players, and suddenly—

WHAM! The crowd goes wild. After a carefully timed pass, and a nimble slip past two harried defenders, a successful try has been made. The ball, damp with sweat from being passed between attackers, glistens triumphantly in its position just beyond the try line.

Would you like a place to be one with yourself after a day’s worth of schoolwork? Or, a team you can call your own? Then, Rugby may be the sport for you.

Rugby Union is a 60-minute game, consisting of 15 on-field players, 8 substitutes, and 3 total referees who oversee the game. However, given the various other smaller competitions throughout the year, we may shift our focus over to either 7s or 10s once the main season ends.

At the centre of the court, two players crouch low, stick-to-stick, blade-to-blade, as their teammates wait with bated breath. Around the court, spectators watch with silenced anticipation, eyes trained on the ball, hearts pounding in sync with the players. Beep! The referee’s shrill whistle pierces through the tension—in an instant, the ball is whisked away in a flurry of swift passes and agile footwork. Welcome to the adrenaline-fueled world of Floorball.

ONE TEAM! RAFFLES! Game face on.

Push, sweep, hit; score, celebrate.

You may be wondering, what is Hockey? Is it floorball on the field? Ice hockey, minus the ice? Being a lesser-known sport, hockey may seem daunting at first. Such apprehension increases when one catches a glimpse of players decked out in their full protective gear, shin guards and gloves galore. However, hockey is not as intimidating as it seems. The goal of the game is simple: two opposing teams of 11 players each use sticks to hit a ball into the opponent’s goal to score a point.
