The crowd is tense, almost silent. Anticipation hangs thick in the air, hot, but every spectator is unminding.

All eyes are fixed on the player balancing the ball between her palms, carefully, as if she holds the fate of the game in her hands.

Perhaps she does. A cacophony of voices surges as the ball contacts the grass once, then whirls in a series of graceful tosses between players, and suddenly—

WHAM! The crowd goes wild. After a carefully timed pass, and a nimble slip past two harried defenders, a successful try has been made. The ball, damp with sweat from being passed between attackers, glistens triumphantly in its position just beyond the try line.

Joyful shrieking ensues as the link (the player positioned between middles and wingers) leaps her way into the awaiting arms of her exuberant teammates. The crowd is alight with glee, the blazing sun is setting just beside the playing field, and this team is on fire.

So, what is Touch Rugby?

Touch Rugby is a dynamic, non-contact sport that emphasises speed, agility, and teamwork over physical strength. Each Touch Rugby game consists of a total of 2 games, each involving 6 players per side on a smaller field for 20 minutes with a 5-minute break.

The objective is to advance the ball to the opposing try line and score, while only being allowed to pass the ball backwards. Instead of tackling their opponents, defenders make a “touch,” after which the play resumes with the attacker holding the ball to “dump” it (i.e. put it on the ground). Another teammate also known as the “half” will have to pick up the ball, advance and pass it off without getting touched.

Meanwhile, the defending team is required to backpedal 7 metres from the point of the touch before rejoining the play, creating opportunities for the attacking side to advance quickly. The game proceeds until 6 touches are made, or until a team scores before a change of possession. After each score, the game restarts at the centre.

Details

We train on Tuesday & Thursday, 4.30pm-6.30pm at the Y56 Stadium!

What if I do not have any experience?

We are a developmental sports CCA which means that no prior experience is needed! However, a basic level of fitness will definitely be helpful. Just bring along your passion, a desire to pick up new skills, and an open mind to getting a tan!

If there’s one word to describe what Touch Rugby means to us, it’s family. Touch Rugby is no doubt a test of strategy, chemistry, and collective determination—but it’s also a game that hones discipline, stamina, and inspires each of us to go the distance.

In finding the individual’s limits, we also learn to complement each others’ strengths and weaknesses—through knowing your team, you also learn a little more about yourself with each  training session. And in Touch Rugby, the best part for us is knowing that we’re finding family along the way.

Do you want to pick up a fun and unique sport? Do you want to make strong friendships and bonds? Do you want to learn new skills? Then…Touch Rugby is the CCA for you!

Our CCA not only trains you to become a more disciplined individual, but also nurtures you into becoming a strong team player beyond the field.

If you want a community that is welcoming and non-judgmental then we are definitely the CCA for you!

(And…most importantly, our extremely cool jerseys!)
