Playing Like Underdogs: Softball Boys NSG Finals 2025

One word to describe RI’s softball team? Aura. Staying undefeated for the 4th year in a row? Even more aura. 

The RI Softball boys team were runners-up in the 2018 and 2019 A Division finals until NSG was suspended during Covid. But ever since NSG resumed in 2022, the RI team has been on a win streak, facing rivals EJC. The EJC and RI softball boys have met each other in the A Division Finals every year since 2022, and in this year alone, the finals would be their third time facing them.

Giant Odds, Not So Giant Squad: Basketball Boys’ NSG 2025

They were knocked out in the Preliminary Group Stage last year. 

And the year before that. And the year before that. 

The Raffles Basketball Boys’ Team last won the A Division Championships in 2016, and they had been no favourite to win this year. Being one of the shortest basketball teams in the A Division, they opened their 2025 season on 9 April with a loss against ACSI.

Firsts and Lasts: Raffles Crew Film Showcase 2025

This is the first — and quite possibly the last — Raffles Crew Film Showcase.

To clarify: this is the first-ever showcase by Raffles Crew, one of the newly merged CCAs formed in 2025 from the union of Audio Visual Unit and Raffles Film Society. Titled “Facets”, this year’s film showcase proudly presents six original films from filmmakers past and present – including two thesis films by the final batch of Raffles Film Society.

There was a palpable buzz in the PAC on the 30th of May: friends and family have come together in anticipation to watch what has been in the works for many months. As the lights dimmed and a pre-show montage of the graduating batch of Film Soc played, a hush fell over the audience, all eyes fixed on the screen as they awaited the first thesis film.

Pressing Ahead 2025: Re-defining Student Journalism

In 2025, Pressing Ahead marks its ninth year. Similar to 2024’s edition, we kicked off our Saturday bright and early at 8.30 am. This year, we were fortunate to have with us guests from Victoria Junior College, Eunoia Junior College, River Valley High School, Hwa Chong Institution, Catholic Junior College, Dunman High School, and NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, who brought with them a shared spirit of collaboration and passion for journalism. 

However, that’s where the similarities end this year. Unlike previous editions, this year’s theme, “Elevating and Amplifying Student Journalism”, was not about preparing students for a career in professional journalism. Instead, it focused on providing opportunities to strengthen student publications as platforms for showcasing unique perspectives and uncovering stories that go unnoticed.

Love, Death and Reindeer: Raffles Chorale SYF 2025

As a chorus of voices rise and fill the Concert Hall of the School of the Arts (SOTA), the world seems to dim to the warm limelight of the stage. 

But for the performers on it, these next fifteen minutes will be “almost inconsequential”—compared to the hours of preparation that came before it, the climax itself feels, well, anticlimactic. 

Being onstage is very forgettable… you’re so laser-focused into delivering everything that it almost doesn’t feel real—like you enter a trance and wake up as the last note resounds. 

The 15 minutes onstage is forgettable; the journey is not, and all the pain, joy, and belonging is the real SYF to me.
