CCA Previews ’22: Piano Ensemble

Reading Time: 4 minutes

“Piano ensemble” — two words that, upon first glance, do not seem to be especially compatible. It is well known that the piano is a popular solo instrument, so why ensemble playing, when solo playing is already so gratifying? Playing with others is an enchanting experience that cannot be described with mere words — it is the feeling of you and your fellow performers entering a singular consciousness, getting lost in seas of melodies, countermelodies and textures, and elevating the depth of the piano to another level that one cannot hope to reach alone.

You landed on this page — bullseye!

Shooting might seem like an exotic CCA in Singapore, a country with one of the strictest gun laws. Nevertheless, our CCA still exists (thankfully).

A question many people have about shooting is: Why is it a sport? Whoever made shooting a sport must have been nuts. Reason 1: Physical exertion is probably as rare as finding a whale on land. Reason 2: Look at reason number 1. According to Google, a sport is “an activity involving physical exertion and skill”. Being the complete opposite, what actually makes us a sport?

But don’t worry, we’ll let you in on some tips. You may recognise a sailor by their flashy CCA jacket, the stunning gold gryphon logo and the unique custom tape on the sleeves striking your eyes. (Shoutout to our talented designer Kyle!) Another way to spot a sailor is by their distinct sunglasses tan line that may resemble the eye rings of a panda. But the most foolproof method is to sense their aura. Sailors are independent yet team-orientated, serious and yet some of the most fun people you will ever meet.
