CCA Previews ’22: Raffles Press

The term ‘student journalist’ can sound quite pretentious. If all we do is (apparently) recapitulate school events or provide information on CCAs, subjects and programmes, what distinguishes us from any random r/AskRaffles? Furthermore, how can we expect a student to fully take on the demands of being a true journalist, given their limited time, energy and experience? 

In other words, can we at Raffles Press truly call ourselves ‘journalists’? 

The first question is easier to answer. Established in 2006, Raffles Press has since dabbled in a variety of genres and subjects. We have featured our campus’ unsung heroes, trained as librarians, covered the Kiwi Cup, and reviewed bubble tea

CCA Previews ’22: Boys Brigade Primers

Any S03 student will tell you that a primer is a strand of nucleic acid that serves as a starting point for DNA synthesis. But what is a BB Primer? The Primers Programme is a structured programme for 16-18 year old youths administered by the Boys’ Brigade Singapore (BB). It offers a diverse range of experiences, from adventure expeditions to leadership development and community service. More importantly, in the Raffles Institution Boys’ Brigade (RIBB), Primers are like the older brothers and sisters (Yes! Girls can join BB too :) of the Y1-4 Boys in RIBB. 

When you picture a uniform group, you might imagine doing marching and drills. While RIBB upholds a high level of discipline, we also conduct a multitude of other activities as well, like camps, sports, and music!
