“Who do you want to be? 01 Warrior!”

Nice to meet you! We are the Year 5s from 01 Raffles Scout Group. We were members of 01 from Year 1-4 and now take on the role of leading the troop for activities. CCA Previews ’21: Raffles Society of Biological Sciences

Reading Time: 3 minutes

By Raffles Society of Biological Sciences

Imagine walking through a boulevard, down a path lined with exotic plants, with the likes of selaginella spikemosses, Indian snakeweeds and seven golden candlesticks plants lining the footpaths. The faint scent emanating from the butterfly pea flowers wafts up to your nares, and you stop to admire the grass yellow and tiger butterflies flitting about the flora. This picturesque scene sounds like something out of a Disney movie, but being able to appreciate this sight yourself isn’t as far-fetched of an idea as you think. CCA Previews ’21: RECAS

Reading Time: 4 minutes

By Yang Yiran (21S03D), Chairperson

“Fly, back, breast and free,”  I swim therefore I am.

Swimmers are the only people who are allowed to say “I can’t feel the water” or “I came from training” at 7.30am. Walking around with bulky bags and dry blonde hair that reeks of chlorine, us swimmers are easily spotted wherever we go. The first thing that crosses your mind when you think about swimming is probably Joseph Issac Schooling’s momentous victory at the 2016 Olympics. Pride, honour and glory —  these are all things that come with accomplishment, but no one can win without putting in the necessary effort.

CCA Previews ’21: Raffles One Earth

Reading Time: 3 minutes

How dare you!

People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!

Hold on, don’t click away just yet—this isn’t a tirade against you. In fact, didn’t that sound a little familiar? That’s because it was a part of Greta Thunberg’s iconic speech at the UN Climate Change Conference of 2019.
