Reading Time: 3 minutes

“I thought I was going to be archiving newspaper articles, but there I was, hosting some of the most influential people around in Singapore!”

That’s just a glimpse of what makes RAM Club one of the most unique, underrated, and surprisingly cool CCAs around.

Sure, we’re not blasting music in the canteen or spamming your feed with TikToks, but don’t let our quiet exterior fool you! Behind the scenes, Raffles Archives & Museum (RAM) is where big moments happen, where stories come to life, and where you’ll find yourself doing things you never imagined when you first stepped into Raffles Institution.

What is so unique about the Club?

RAM Club isn’t just a place. It’s a community of curious minds and creative doers who uncover the secrets beyond our school. Since its launch in 2021, an endeavour initiated by Eugene Teo (Class of 2020/2022), Year 5-6 RAM Club has grown into a vibrant space where students explore, create, connect and inspire.

RAM Club members are often the face of RI at major school events. You’ll get opportunities that will go beyond the usual student experience. We regularly host distinguished guests, from accomplished alumni to school leaders and international figures, giving you a front-row seat to special occasions that you don’t wanna miss out on.

Whether it is guiding VIPs during major school events or interviewing influential personalities, RAM Club members take on meaningful roles that build confidence, sharpen communication skills, and deepen connections with the RI community, even if you are new to speaking with people that you don’t know. Don’t worry, you’ll be armed with knowledge of the school history that even your schoolmates don’t know!

During a regular club session, one may come home to the familiar sight of our members gathered around the cosy air-conditioned space in the museum, making it an exceptionally comfortable place for members and visitors alike. Around pristine white tables set up in the nucleus of the room, we dive into student-led projects that we find interest in, curating our own unique experience in the club.

One such project that RAM Club has embarked on since January 2025 is the research on the multi-faceted legacy of Major General Lim Bo Seng—an esteemed war hero and alumnus of Raffles Institution (1925-1926).

Through oral interviews, in-depth research, field study and creative storytelling, we successfully published a book titled, Hidden Lenses: The Many Faces of Lim Bo Seng, with a grant of $5,000 which our project managers managed to pitch from the Young ChangeMakers-Youth Heritage Kickstarter Fund administered by the National Youth Council and National Heritage Board.

As part of the project, we had a showstopping excursion to Ipoh, uncovering many landmarks, discoveries, and snacks galore! Besides focusing on the project, we had sufficient time to relax and explore the fun-packed Ipoh town. How does having a meal with an indigenous tribe or exploring a massive cave system sound? Absolutely divine.

Other Club activities and events

Beyond these projects lies a vast field of opportunities – enriching learning journeys that are both exciting and educational. One highlight? Soaking in the enchanting atmosphere of the Light to Night Festival; wandering under the glow of art installations, surrounded by the buzz of the Padang at night. It’s moments like these, where history meets heart, that truly make RAM Club special.

From exclusive behind-the-scenes visits to places like the Heritage Conservation Centre, to late-night impromptu discussions about life, dreams and everything in between, over snacks under the stars, RAM Club is where meaningful learning meets unforgettable memories.

One of our most anticipated highlights is the annual end-of-year RAM Camp. A few unforgettable days of bonding over mouth-watering food and immersive cultural experiences, a Goosechase from City Hall to Fort Canning, as well as visiting places you’ve never even heard of. Also, be prepared for a whale of a time with a sizzling barbecue finale, courtesy of our generous patron, Dr Yeo.

We are supported by dedicated teachers, Mrs Cheryl Yap and Ms Low Siew Hsien, as well as staff and a diverse group of successful alumni mentors from various backgrounds and impressive careers. RAM Club offers a unique blend of hands-on projects, meaningful collaborations, and unforgettable experiences. Whether you’re into interviewing alumni, curating exhibitions, or exploring heritage on trips, RAM Club gives you the chance to develop skills, take on leadership roles, and contribute in your own way.

If you’re looking for a fun, creative, and rewarding CCA, RAM Club might just be the place for you.
