Unleashing the inner chemist

Have you ever wondered about what makes up the world around you? Are you intrigued by the various reactions occurring as you obliviously go about your daily activities?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, we welcome you to dive into the captivating world of Chemistry with Alchemy Club! From seasoned scientists to curious beginners, our club offers a haven for higher learning and a fulfilling journey through the wonders of Chemistry.

Synthesising the bonds of a community

Alchemy Club isn’t just a CCA; it’s a vibrant community of Chemistry enthusiasts who come together to explore, experiment, and enjoy the science that shapes our world. Here, curiosity is celebrated, and the pursuit of knowledge is a shared passion.

Our sessions aim to not just broaden your understanding of Chemistry, but more importantly also spark highly exothermic reactions between you and your fellow Alchemists, to catalyse the formation of bonds that last a lifetime.

During sessions, our members gather in our laboratory — a peaceful sanctuary where creativity and curiosity react with analysis and experimentation. The products of this reaction include highly explosive touch powder, a few pots of cheese, chocolate jelly spaghetti, and the critical ingredient of happiness – the friends we make along the way.

Beyond CCA sessions, we also embark on exciting field trips and actively participate in organising school events like Team Raffles Games and Chemistry Week.

Whether it’s “cooking” our own dinners or making elements elementary, our activities are both enjoyable and educational.

A Kaleidoscope of Discovery

Our gatherings are an intricate kaleidoscope of concepts, from abstract phenomena to the tangible objects we hold (and consume) daily, and a diverse group of people, each of us offering our own vibrancy to gain a deeper understanding of our world.

At Alchemy Club, we transform everyday observations into exhilarating insights for our members to enrich their minds. We delve into the Chemistry behind the colour that you see, the food you eat without much thought, and even the device you are using to read this article. We tackle the more profound aspects of Chemistry and break it down so that you do not have to overcome any high activation energy barriers to satisfy your curiosity.

Speaking of curiosity, our Alchemy community has a culture of taking learning into our own hands, stretching and surpassing our intellectual boundaries and attaining a more chemical understanding of the world.

The Alchemy Family

While the stimulating discussions and captivating experiments are key features of Alchemy Club, we focus on building a sense of camaraderie and belonging at our very core, just like how protons and neutrons form the nucleus of every atom.

Our name does not do justice to the Alchemy family of curious minds who support and inspire each other to reach new heights. Collaboration is at our core; together, we tackle challenges, carry out experiments, and revel in the joy of intellectually stimulating ourselves beyond the book (supported by a caring and devoted teacher-in-charge Mdm Lam).

Let’s hear from one of our members:

Zhang Ruihan (26S03H) joined Alchemy “hoping to learn more about Chemistry beyond the classroom”. When asked about her experience, she shared that: “I feel quite bonded with each other as we are given many opportunities to work with each other such as presentations, group work for practicals and the upcoming Chemistry week. I feel that this allows us to get to know each other better, and I feel comfortable interacting with everyone in Alchemy.”

As for her most memorable takeaway on her Alchemy experience, Ruihan aptly sums it up: “My most memorable takeaway would be that you don’t have to be good at Chemistry to be in Alchemy as we can all learn together. Initially, I was a bit scared to join Alchemy as I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to keep up, but now I realise that you just need to have passion to keep learning.”

Now, you may be wondering how you can be part of our family. Our sessions are held every Monday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, and we are open to anyone who possesses the curiosity and passion for Chemistry.

So, if you’re looking for a place where the wonders of Chemistry come to life, where you can explore the depths of scientific knowledge and bond with like-minded individuals, Alchemy Club is the perfect spark to catalyse your passion.

Unleash your inner Alchemist and join us in this thrilling adventure. The cauldron is bubbling, magic is in the air and empty beakers eagerly await……you, our missing ingredient. So, what are you waiting for to join us on this electrifying ride of a lifetime?
