What is softball? To some, it is the lesser-known cousin of baseball. To others, it is a sport with a misleading name—because trust us, the ball is anything but soft. To us, softball is so much more. It is a fast-paced, fiercely competitive game that delivers adrenaline, challenge, joy and a sense of belonging like no other.

Many underestimate its speed, but at the competitive level, softball is a game of razor-thin margins and instant decisions. In Fastpitch softball, pitches can soar at speeds up to 120 km/h. With the pitching distance only 46 feet away, batters have just 0.30 to 0.35 seconds to spot the ball, decide and execute their swing–quicker than the blink of an eye.

Fielders have it just as tough, reacting to ground balls and line drives hurtling toward them at more than 130 km/h. Whether you are staring down a pitch or guarding your base, softball demands lightning-fast reflexes, sharp decision-making, and total focus.

What makes softball beautiful isn’t just the thrill of the game—it’s the moments in between. The crisp crack of the bat meeting the ball. The sharp, satisfying snap of a clean catch in the glove. The encouraging shouts of teammates echoing across the diamond.

Beyond the rush of action, softball demands mental sharpness—split-second decision-making, sharp anticipation, and the ability to adapt under pressure. It is a sport that engages both body and mind, delivering as much adrenaline as it does intellectual satisfaction.

Yet perhaps the most special part of softball is not found on the field—it’s the friendships forged through it. The game thrives on trust and teamwork, with every player relying on the next to achieve something greater than themselves.

The long hours spent training on Mondays (4pm–7pm), Wednesdays (8am–11am), and Fridays (4pm–7pm) do more than honing our skills, they strengthen our bonds. Post-training hangouts and team dinners evolve into cherished traditions, weaving together a close-knit community that stands by one another through victories, defeats and everything in between.

In addition to friendly matches throughout the year, the team participates in two major annual events. The first is the Softball Carnival, hosted by the Singapore Recreational Club in March, and the second is the National School Games (NSG) in April.

This NSG season, the A Division Boys emerged victorious after a thrilling final against EJC, defending our championship title with a 6-1 win, an especially sweet triumph after a narrow 8-9 loss to the same team in the repechage round. The A Division Girls staged an impressive comeback from the brink of elimination, but fell just short in the final against ACJC, finishing as first runners-up. Given the short runway of the A Division season and the competitive nature of the sport, prior experience is required to join the team.
