“Band? Isn’t that a loop of rubber used to hold objects together?”
“That’s ‘rubber band’. A band is a metal ring indicating the wearer is married.”
“No, you’re thinking of ‘wedding band’. A band is the amount of data that can be transferred in a given period of time.”
“No, that’s ‘bandwidth’. I was thinking more along the lines of a Symphonic Band—a spirited group of passionate individuals making music together!”
Welcome to Raffles Symphonic Band (RSB)!
Whether you’re a returning band member or a musician looking to try your hand at something new, RSB is the place for you!
On Wednesdays and Fridays, RSB members embark on a journey, walking across the Y56 campus into unfamiliar waters in the Y14 campus for our CCA sessions. The hike across the campus may seem arduous, but we’re brought to a homey band room where we chill and bond beyond just practising. Music-wise, we got you covered! From enriching private tutoring sessions with acclaimed tutors, to fruitful combined practices with our resident conductor Mr Lim Yean Hwee, you’ll be ready for the battles ahead!
We’re a busy CCA, holding 2 annual concerts: A Tempo, our grand mid-year concert held at the Victoria Concert Hall, and Bandemonium, our year-end concert where we invite alumni and Secondary 4 students to join us in performing. Our band also participates in the biennial SYF Arts Presentation, and exchanges with bands overseas. Last but not least, we hold Tune-In, a day of fun and interaction for Secondary 4 students all over Singapore to reunite with their instruments!
Do check out our video for a more up-close and personal sneak peek into the RSB experience – we would love for it to be yours too! See you soon, a wide range of exciting experiences awaits you!
