CCA Previews ’22: Art Club

Reading Time: 3 minutes

By Raffles Art Club EXCO’22

Are you an aspiring art student but your parents want you to take H2 Econs instead of H2 Art (pain)? Are you notorious for doodling on your math tutorials? Do your 10 minute sketches end up taking half a day? Are you looking for like-minded individuals who share the same passion for drawing?

Or maybe you just want to draw your anime waifus and K-drama husbandos (Gong Yoo I’m looking at you) but don’t know how to anatomy (don’t worry, I can’t anatomy either…)?

Wow! Lucky you, because Art Club is the place for you!

Our sessions are chill and casual, judgement-free, and both fun and learning-oriented. Worried that whatever you make isn’t “real art”? Well, don’t worry because we also have no idea what “real art” is… we just slap on whatever we feel like drawing (OK that’s stretching it a bit but you get the idea). There’s no pressure to be good because at the end of the day we’re all here because we love creating stuff! We want to get better at that together and have lots of fun in the process. We embrace diversity, be it digital or traditional, realistic or cartoonist because all art is good art. Regardless of your experience or skill in art, as long as you have the passion, you’re more than welcome to join us on our CCA journey! :D

Technically a CCA photo because everyone’s faces are there… just not necessarily in the same dimension :O featuring Olivia (the blurry one), Jiaqi (Chair), Helen (Vice-chair) and Aditya (Quartermaster/The money guy). *Picture taken in accordance with SMMs during the prior phase of Covid-19 measures..

Our CCA is conducted every Wednesday from 8.30-11.30 AM. During our physical sessions, our super patient and caring instructors assist us in learning new skills such as papermaking, watercolour painting, charcoal drawing, as well as polishing up good ol’ basics like sketching anatomy or composition studies. Occasionally, you may catch a glimpse of an Art Club member in its natural habitat, sitting in the middle of the corridors sketching a tree. We also invite external teachers to host one or two sessions too (like our paper-making workshop!).

Covid strikes again? Well, come join our virtual sessions (cuz art is universal 😎😎)! During our virtual sessions, we chill and bond through collaborative drawing platforms and games like gartic phone, or engage in self-learning by looking for online inspiration and art tutorials. It’s our custom to share our artworks with each other on the Art Club padlet towards the end of the session, which provides an open and supportive space for all members to give constructive feedback! Take a look here yourself: https://padlet.com/artclub2021/olj7w5ci5ug4vc9j

Our sessions aren’t really lessons so much as they are opportunities for self-expression and discovery, as we place a very strong emphasis on peer-to-peer learning as well self-reflecting. For most sessions, the first half of our time will be spent freely doing whatever we want within the lesson’s theme, and during the second half, we gather to share our thoughts and receive feedback from our teachers.

Do follow our instagram https://www.instagram.com/rafflesartists/ to find out more! We hope to see you here :D!

P.S. The glorious hand of our sensei Mr Chia; join Art Club to witness his divinity in action.
