Paddles in – Pull – Recover – Set up – Repeat.

1 minute – a test of mental grit and physical limits. At the end of that 1 minute? Bliss. Not just at the sweet victory, but at the blood, sweat, and tears put into preparing for the race that have finally paid off.

To some, venturing into the middle of the ocean might sound daunting and intimidating, but for a sailor, it’s just another day out at sea.

Close your eyes and try to picture a sailboat. If you envision a white boat with a sail, then you’re spot on! It’s crucial to note that sailing is not the same as canoeing or dragon boating. How does sailing work? Well, there are three key aspects to the sport: control, balance, and direction.

CCA Previews ’26: Swimming

Founded in 1924, Raffles Swimming is among the oldest and most established CCAs in Raffles Institution. Some notable alumni from the Raffles Institution Swim Team (RIST) include Mr Goh Chok Tong, the former Prime Minister of Singapore between 1990 and 2004, and Ms Quah Ting Wen, Olympian and 26-time gold medallist at the Southeast Asian Games between 2007 and 2022.

The whistle blows. The water explodes. It’s you and six teammates against the world. In water polo, everything happens all at once. Legs kicking, balls whizzing, voices roaring. Constant swimming up and down the pool requires elite endurance and mental toughness to last the entire game. And when that goal lands, the stands erupt. If this is where you thrive, this is definitely the CCA for you!
