Seated in the hallowed Victorian Concert Hall, a sense of formality and solemnity pervaded the atmosphere, perhaps weighed by the long history of the colonial-era architecture all around us. As friends, parents and schoolmates alike filled the rows and rows of seats, anticipation grew for the Raffles Chorale (Year 5-6) and Raffles Voices (Year 1-4) combined performance on 23 April.

Titled “An Ode to Spring”, the concert theme revolved around the concept of new beginnings and hope associated with the season. Audience members dressed for the occasion, donning flowery dresses and neat button-down shirts. Even those still wearing their school uniform, their spirits shone a vibrant light, illustrating their passion to show support for their performing friends.

Some of you might remember waiting desperately while the Ticketmaster website displays a dismally large queue number, carefully deciding an outfit to wear on Concert D-Day itself, or queuing in anticipation outside stadiums or Singpost stations, even in the sweltering Singapore heat.

Reverie–the state of being pleasantly lost in one’s thoughts–is also known as a daydream.

True to its name, Concert Reverie was indeed a dream come true for the members of the Raffles Institution Piano Ensemble (RIPE) and Raffles Institution Chamber Ensemble (RICE) for it is the first time the 2 CCAs are collaborating and working together for an event.

Is the Further Maths Class What You Think It Is?

Reading Time: 4 minutes

By Gabriel Ho Weng Kit (24S02A)

Is the Further Mathematics (FM) class really full of nerds? Does everyone do nothing but Maths and Physics?

Indeed, most FM students have a flair for Maths, but the majority of us do not love doing it as a hobby. (Admittedly, many of us took FM to avoid having to take Chemistry.) But there are indeed a handful of us who treat Maths as a hobby. They enjoy even reading undergraduate-level Maths and discussing abstract concepts with one another—truly a match made in heaven.
