“The true measure of a person is who they are with sword in hand…”

— Aldo Nadi

Often referred to as “physical chess”, fencing is a discipline which requires a combination of physical and mental strength to excel. In the space of a 14m by 1.5m strip and a maximum time of 9 minutes, the fencer must not only have the stamina and skill to outlast and outmanoeuvre the opponent, but also a clear mind to anticipate and form plans to counter the opponent’s movements.

Raffles Floorball Batch ‘18 at Boys’ A Div Finals 2017.

In Raffles Floorball, we believe that anything is possible. On court, there are no limits to what you can do – you have 45 seconds a shift to decide to pass, dribble, shoot, or create a magical playup that gets you the goal. Floorball is a fast-paced and intense game that teaches you to outwit and outdo your opponents by being the most determined and creative that you can be. Every game, each line of 5 players goes in to attack and defend, switching every 45 seconds with the next line in a rotational manner to continue the play and try to score. 45 second sprint, 45 second rest, and back at it again. Floorball will show you how in a 45-minute match, you will be pushed to your limits physically and mentally, and yet be able to have lots of fun with your teammates, advancing your way to victory.

Raffles Netballers: we are the ones who have a unexplainable and irreplaceable love for the Meiji chocolate milk in Chill. The ones who you can hear screaming in the toilets during our ice baths after matches. Most importantly, the ones who greet each other along the corridors, in the canteen and even in the lecture theatres with bear hugs, as if the last time we had seen each other was 10 years ago when in reality, it was probably just the previous day. While many of our peers often question our affectionate greetings in public, it is through these small actions that we encourage each other and gain that small amount of energy needed to push through school after a tiring training the day before.
