Fast fashion, e-waste, plastic waste, food waste… the list of problems plaguing our world seems to be endless. These issues of consumerism are not new to us, but how many of us can truly attest to taking action to mitigate their impact? 

In their annual batch project, “Consumer Class”, Community Advocates aims to provide students a full rundown of all the vital information we need to know to get on board the expressway to a Zero Waste Nation.

Wading Against Covid-19 Currents: Student Feature

If Ethan had to describe his journey in Chinese Literacy Drama Cultural Society (CLDCS) and Students’ Council with one word, it would be ‘serendipitous’. 

For one, Council’s in-person initiatives, such as Team Raffles Games and Spirit Week, had to be shifted online due to the Circuit Breaker. He also had little to no opportunities to interact with his fellow councillors. However, when SMMs eased further in Phase 3, he was able to bond more with them.

A fresh addition to RI’s collection of Wednesday Enrichment Programmes (WEP), the ASIP seeks to equip students with invaluable digital skills to construct innovative solutions to everyday problems.

At the Frontlines: An Insight Into A Chaotic Year in the Laboratory for Dr Brendan Pang

The Covid-19 pandemic has been raging across the world for the past year. With new waves of the pandemic hitting many parts of the world hard, including our nation, which has recently been placed on a heightened alert (a.k.a CB 2.0 to many), many job scopes have since been thrust to the forefront. As we learn more about jobs at the frontlines, apart from doctors and nurses, we will be exploring how a pathologist’s life has been impacted by this devastating outbreak. 

Dr Brendan Pang, an RJC alumnus from the class of 1995, is an anatomic and molecular pathologist responsible for leading a team of staff in Parkway Laboratory Services and Angsana Molecular and Diagnostic Laboratory. These are companies involved in the molecular testing of blood and tissue samples from patients for diagnostic applications.

In Ourselves: RMUN 2021

Debating about maritime oil spills or the 2nd Libyan Civil War in third person in front of a web camera may not be an activity that most would associate with their precious June holidays… except for the delegates attending the 29th edition of the annual Raffles Model United Nations (RMUN) held on 3rd and 4th June this year.

The theme for this year’s RMUN was ‘In Ourselves’: in the words of Russell Choy (21A01B), Secretary General of RMUN 2021, “a call for us to look inward and to find the strength we need to make things better in the ways that we can.”
