The amphitheatre of the Y5-6 campus is usually punctuated with the familiar percussive sounds of table tennis balls. On the afternoon of 23th May 2022, however, Rafflesians from across both campuses gathered in eager anticipation of a very special performance: A Tempo, Raffles Symphonic Band (RSB)’s long awaited annual concert.

Raffles Jazz 2022: Shades of Love

“I hope the audience enjoys this,” said Keith Chan (23S06Q) minutes before the performance began, backstage buzzing with all the pent-up nerves of performers who hadn’t properly been on-stage for at least two years. As the clock ticked down, the PAC gradually filled up, a hum of anticipation in the air for performers and people alike.

Blazing a New Path: Students’ Council Investiture 2022

The morning of 18 May 2022 marked the beginning of the very first physical Students’ Council Investiture the school had seen in two years. Councillors from both the 41st and 42nd batch reported bright and early to the Performing Arts Centre (PAC) at 7:30am to prepare for the investiture which began at 9am.

Bringing the Championship Home: Girls’ Softball Finals 2022

On 24 May, RI’s Softball Girls team stepped onto the River Valley High School field to play finals against Hwa Chong, whom they had been defeated by in one of the preliminary rounds. Fresh from a stunning victory against 5-time champion ACJC in a nail-biting match, the team were eager to seize this opportunity to clinch the gold and steal back a win from Hwa Chong.

It’s Okay to Not Know What You Want to Do!

To the lost Rafflesian:

Ever see your older cousins or aunts and uncles get pelted with questions about their jobs and relationships during family gatherings? Those questions never fail to give me a good laugh and I would think to myself that thankfully, that is a problem for another day, because I am still studying. 

As I grow older, I realise that age does not matter when it comes to being asked the BIG question: what do you want to do in the future?

I myself am guilty of using this as a conversation starter. However, this is a bad one that usually gets me nowhere in developing a stronger relationship with the other party because when the same question is thrown my way, I simply answer: I don’t know.
