If the striking pink posters around school have not managed to catch your eye, perhaps the cardboard picketers’ signs will have. The Humanities Initiative is back for the third year running with its annual charity concert, LIKE A R!OT, in support of their long-time beneficiary Toa Payoh Care Corner (TPCC), an organisation that supports the elderly living in the area. We stopped briefly by their rehearsal after school on Monday to bring you our pre-concert impressions.

Photo Essay: Raffles Cup 2012

On 4 and 5 June 2012, the Raffles Institution Chinese Chess Club hosted the 27th Raffles Cup. The annual Raffles Cup has traditionally been co-organised by Raffles Institution and the Singapore Xiangqi General Association (Sixga) with the objectives of stimulating interest in the game. This year’s instalment was held at the Indoor Sports Hall, with four categories: junior college, secondary school, blitz and female.

Where will you Find 17-Year-Olds Rattling off “Capital Markets” and “Moral Hazard”? A Debating Tournament, Of Course!

After a 6-year drought, the Raffles Debaters have emerged as the Champions of the Ministry of Education-Anglo Chinese Junior College Inter-Collegiate Debating Championships. The 5-person team, comprising Chua Jun Yan, Antariksh Mahajan, Pavithra Ramkumar, Lim Ying Xuan and Tan Teck Wei, defeated Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) in the Grand Finals by a vote of 4 to 1.

Review: Fovero — Guitar Ensemble

As the school term came to an end (thank goodness!), Guitar Ensemble welcomed the wearied souls of teachers and students alike to enjoy a night of fun and musical entertainment. Indeed, there were so many guests that a certain unfortunate reporter was reduced to being seated at the top level of the theatre. However, this definitely did not in any way diminish the wonderful performance that unfolded on the (far) stage below.
