Music + Studying = Productivity?

Reading Time: 6 minutes

By Peh Tse Wei Tomi (26S06P)

Music. A medium to express oneself. Travelling? Put on music. Working out? Put on music. What about studying? Do you put on music? Here in Singapore, many students enjoy listening and “vibing” to music when they study. However, studying is an activity that requires lots of focus, and music sometimes retracts our attention from studying.

This is the first — and quite possibly the last — Raffles Crew Film Showcase.

To clarify: this is the first-ever showcase by Raffles Crew, one of the newly merged CCAs formed in 2025 from the union of Audio Visual Unit and Raffles Film Society. Titled “Facets”, this year’s film showcase proudly presents six original films from filmmakers past and present – including two thesis films by the final batch of Raffles Film Society.

There was a palpable buzz in the PAC on the 30th of May: friends and family have come together in anticipation to watch what has been in the works for many months. As the lights dimmed and a pre-show montage of the graduating batch of Film Soc played, a hush fell over the audience, all eyes fixed on the screen as they awaited the first thesis film.

Spoiler Alert!

When IU, Lee Ji-Eun, was announced to be playing the leading character of a drama, I was incredibly psyched about it for 2 reasons: One, being that I was a big IU fan and two, it would be her return to the silver screen after 6 years. After sitting through 16 episodes, bringing me through 4 seasons and 3 generations of characters, I have concluded that this drama is a masterpiece in the illustration of human relationships and their beauty.
