Raffles House, at Fort Canning Park, overlooks the sleek skyscrapers of the Central Business District. As a place with such grand reminders of modernity, it seems even more meaningful that it should be a venue for the celebration of heritage and history.
Fort Canning was where, two centuries ago, Sir Stamford Raffles erected Singapore’s first botanical and experimental garden. On 4th June, the school honoured this ecological legacy: Raffles House hosted teachers, students, alumni, and esteemed guests at the inaugural tree-planting event for the 1823 Trees campaign.

Rest assured that we were no different, not till the Press ’21 batch excursion to Seletar (and yes, we managed to go on a Safe Management Measure–approved excursion before the current Covid-19 measures were in place)!
From aviation to nature, we uncovered the many facets of this lesser-known neighbourhood in Singapore with our tour guides, Mr Jeremy Koh and Mr Andrew Ong, who indeed proved most helpful on our great journey.

For Raffles Press, however, this day had another cause for celebration: barely half an hour after the end of the Math paper, we piled into a bus, armed with mosquito repellent and sunblock, and set off for the Kranji countryside, ready for an afternoon at one with nature.
