Is Raffles Runway, like, the airport runway? 

No – not exactly! Instead of planes, the only things strutting down our runway are models clad from head-to-toe in stunning looks created by our very own CCA members. 

Here at Raffles Runway, our 12 designers strive towards the highly anticipated Runway Showcase, where our own dazzling masterpieces are modelled by fellow Rafflesians every year, giving Anna Wintour a run for her Met Gala. This journey might sound daunting, but fret not – you need not have sewing experience in order to join us!  

Our CCA sessions, held from 8:00am-11:00am on Wednesdays at the classroom block, help members acquire a myriad of skills required to fashion our own repertoire of tailored outfits, regardless of our starting point.  

In our first year, we work towards building foundational skills required to construct an outfit. Instructors from Fashion Makerspace and all around Singapore conduct workshops to teach members how to draft patterns, drape fabric and operate sewing machines. Runway members also get to choose specific skills they wish to learn, such as installing boning for corsets and embroidery. 

Occasionally, you may spot us on fashion outings, browsing inspiring works at fashion exhibitions from the likes of Iris Van Herpen to displays at the Asian Civilisations Museum. As the timeline to our showcase draws near, we start scouting for models through our own Model Auditions. 

In the second year, members plan and work on their individual fashion collections, ranging from 2-3 outfits per person. From frilly collars to shiny blouses, every detail on and off stage is personalised by our members — even the Vogue-worthy photoshoots and the carpet under the models’ heels!  

You can find Runway designers stitching threads and buttons in the designated Runway Room tucked neatly next to the Marymount exit gate. Equipped with mannequins, fabrics, jewels and gems, it is a treasure trove filled with the legacies left behind by the designers before us.

Due to our small size, our batches of designers are as tight as woven threads. Find us jamming to our favourite tunes as we work to the humming rhythm of our sewing machines. Catch us in heated discussions over fashion, whispering thrifting recommendations to each other, or buzzing excitedly over our own niche interests. You’re bound to find someone with the same passions as you, and find a space to call home within our tight-knit community.
