What makes an image good? For many, it might be just a quick snap with your phone. But here in Raffles Image Art Collective (RIAC), it is much more. We embrace the power to transform the ordinary, the mundane, into the extraordinary. Formed from the merger of our school’s Visual Arts Club and Photographic Society, we’re here to dive into the depths of art direction, design, and visual storytelling to produce images that speaks volumes.
Join us as we redefine what it means to capture—and create—the world around us.
Our sessions are on Tuesdays from 4.30 to 6.30 p.m. in school. These sessions are helmed by our experienced instructors, providing their invaluable guidance to hone our photography skills and explore digital design. With these acquired skills, we are also provided with ample opportunities to work on projects and contribute meaningfully back to the school! When we’re not behind the camera, we also engage in fun bonding activities, to boost our camaraderie as a team.
Showcase
Do you have zero experience? Fret not! By the end of year 5, each RIAC member will be equipped with both the photography and design skills needed to tell your own unique story. You will put your skills to the test with batch projects such as the Deck the Walls Batch Project. We will capture the many diverse CCAs that RI has to offer, augmenting them with unique digital elements and displaying them for all to see around the school.
In Year 6, you will push your boundaries, collaborating with CCAs like Raffles Runway and Raffles Entrepreneurs’ Network, giving you a chance to work with models, stylists, and entrepreneurs to bring your creations to life. You will play an active role in all stages of the creative process; initial ideation, designing products, crafting props and the final shoot.
These collaborations will allow you to lead your very own studio shoots, expressing your artistic vision through the lens. In addition, you will have the opportunity to pursue your personal art projects, putting all your skills and experiences together to find your unique style. These projects encourage you to experiment and innovate, melding modern photography techniques with vibrant visual effects, and produce an original, expressive artwork to highlight your growth in RIAC.
Events
As a RIAC photographer, you’ll become an integral part of our school community. Whether it’s the adrenaline-pumping excitement of sports games, the vibrant energy of concerts, or the spirited celebrations of school events, there’s always something thrilling to capture.
Event coverage is one of the best ways to hone your photography skills. You’ll get up-close access to the action, capturing those split-second moments that truly define an event. Imagine freezing a triumphant goal in mid-air, immortalizing a performer’s passionate expression, or capturing the gusto of a house cheer.
Being in the thick of it gives you a unique perspective and the opportunity to experiment with different angles, lighting, and compositions. You’ll learn to anticipate moments, adapt quickly to changing conditions, and develop a keen eye for storytelling through your lens. Plus, your photos won’t just sit in a folder—they’ll be showcased, celebrated, and remembered as part of our school’s history.
