It’s a high, really—the invigorating feeling of attaining a new season-best timing, the steady pulse of the drum coursing like a heartbeat, the adrenaline in your veins before a race like lightning.
Yet, all dragon boaters would also tell you about the way every single paddler shouts with all their might on the boat, how your teammates’ cheers and cries only spur you to paddle harder. This is the essence of Raffles Dragonboating—a tight-knit community fuelled by raw passion. If that floats your boat, we welcome you.
We are a developmental sport and do not require any prior qualification. We only look for a willingness to try your best and work hard, in and out of CCA. The ultimatum is that the boat will move as fast as the slowest member, which means that we are looking for members who are driven and always aiming to surpass their previous best.
We can only win the race when we push each other forward, using this team spirit and sheer grit to paddle in solidarity and to never let each other down. After all, we paddle to pull our own weight, but also that of our teammates.
We train 3 times a week, Monday on land, Wednesdays and Fridays on water. Each training will push your mind, body and spirit to its fullest potential, refining your fitness and skills in preparation for A-Division. Land training takes place in the school gym, which comprises cardio and sport-specific weight training. Water training is at Kallang Water Sports Centre (KWSC) or Singapore Dragon Boat Association (SDBA).
