CCA Previews ‘25: Chamber and Piano Ensemble

Reading Time: 3 minutes

By Nicholas Kim (Chairperson) and Isabelle Loh (Vice-Chairperson)

As of 2025, Chamber Ensemble and Piano Ensemble will be merging into one combined CCA: Chamber and Piano Ensemble. This article will take you through what each CCA used to be, as well as our combined direction moving forward.

Piano Ensemble: Our Past

Piano Ensemble may have been one of the most misunderstood CCAs. FAQs included: whether we all played on the same piano at once; whether we played individually; whether we had 10 pianos in a single room (though that would have been nice), to which our answers were all “No”. You will hear us before you see us: the blaring trumpets, the gusto of the tubas, the ringing piccolo, and the booming of the percussion that signal the arrival of the Raffles Symphonic Band. Established in 1962, Raffles Symphonic Band (RSB) has been mesmerising people with their music-making since its inception.

The Raffles Malay Cultural Society (MCS) may not be known to many, but we are a tight-knit community of individuals who are both friendly and diverse. We are bound by the common passion for exploring and preserving the rich and colourful Malay culture. If you don’t catch us playing Chapteh, we might be doing Malay dance, playing the angklung or kompang, or just chilling and watching Malay movies together. Most importantly, we are always having tons of fun!
