In Raffles Street Dance’s “Animi Motus”—Latin for “motion of the soul”—the dancers took us on a journey through the landscape of the human psyche. From the elation of euphoria to the crushing weight of melancholy, RSD’s showcase wasn’t just a performance. It was a lived experience—reminding us of how every raw emotion is exactly what makes us human and whole, leaving you feeling like you had lived every heartbeat with each dancer.
Even before the performance began, the atmosphere was electric. As the house lights dimmed, the Performing Arts Centre was hushed with anticipation, excitement buzzing in the air like static. Then: the unmistakable drum beat of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” thundered through space. The crimson curtains pulled back to reveal a frozen tableau of dancers, silhouetted in a dramatic wash of stark, cinematic lighting. “Animi Motus” had burst to life.
Each item in Animi Motus was a distinct chapter in an emotional arc: Ecstasy, Pride, Temptation, Hysteria, Lost, Melancholy and Nostalgia. With stage lighting playing a crucial role in storytelling, every emotion was brought to life through painstakingly crafted choreography, thoughtfully curated song choices, and intentional choices in lighting and costumes, all working together to immerse the audience in that emotion. The colours were bold and shifting, and strobe lights pulsed and flickered. The stage was almost otherworldly, drawing watchers deeply into the emotional arc of the performances.
The theme “Animi Motus” wasn’t just an artsy name. It aimed to capture the essence of the showcase by reflecting not only the complexity of human emotion, but also the dancers’ own journey within their CCA.
Their journey in RSD was one filled with laughter, frustration and connection. As they shared with us in an interview, the theme ties closely to the idea of “treasuring the now”—a tribute to the precious time spent with their batchmates and the emotions intertwined within.
For instance, pieces like Hysteria and Melancholy used moodier lighting and fragmented formations to evoke a sense of internal conflict and emotional unravelling, while brighter emotions like Ecstacy featured upbeat tracks with vibrant lighting to mirror feelings of carefree joy. The finale, Nostalgia, brought the Y5 and Y6 batches together in joyous, rainbow rapture – each dancer clad in unique, individual outfits that stood in contrast to the uniform costumes of previous acts. The stage was a kaleidoscope of colour and energy, celebrating the community and memories that binds everyone.
When asked about the memories that stood out to them while preparing for the showcase, RSD’s EXCO members recall an unforgettable day in the Multi-Purpose Studio, twenty-one days before the show, where all the dancers cried together in a moment of catharsis. They were exhausted, stressed and demoralised by several setbacks and challenges that had been piling up. It seemed that everything was against them at that moment.
But through the tears, they realised something powerful: no matter how tough things got, they always had each other. That unshakeable bond between the RSD Y6 members became the foundation that carried them through their final performance.
“Going on stage is one thing, but going on stage together is something else entirely.”

As the curtains drew and the performance ended, it was clear that “Animi Motus” was more than a simple showcase of talent and hours poured into practice sessions—it was a celebration of the bonds between the RSD batch of 2025 that carried them through every step of the journey.
