Once Upon A Dream: Raffles Street Dance Showcase 2023

Does everyone dream? 

That was the question that Raffles Street Dance (RSD) sought to ask everyone on Wednesday night as a hushed atmosphere settled over the auditorium, charged with the anticipation of an expectant audience. Tensions were high – after all, it was the first post-pandemic showcase since 2019’s Homebound, and three whole years since the dancers had performed self-choreographed pieces for a live audience.

In Youthful Company @ Esplanade

On the 21st of April, the Raffles Institution Chinese Orchestra (RICO) (Y1-6) collaborated with the Raffles Girls’ School Chinese Orchestra (RGSCO) and RICO alumni, coming together to deliver their third iteration of ‘In Youthful Company’ at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre. There were packed theatres, along with lovely sunsets, but of course, there was a cheerful spring repertoire to top off our Friday nights.

With this being RICO’s first public performance since the pandemic began, pent-up excitement from audiences and performers alike was evident from the overflowing turnout and an oversubscribed list of performers.

RJGE SYF 2023: A Symphony of Souls

On 6 April, Raffles Guitar Ensemble took part in the biennial Singapore Youth Festival. The Stamford Training Room was filled with palpable anxiety as the members of RJGE gathered for one last practice as an ensemble before boarding the bus to SOTA, their performance venue.

Vocal Delights 2022: Déjà Vu

On the second Sunday of December, Raffles Chorale gave us two hours of incredible musical delights to anticipate, which have become two  hours of memorable performance we wish we could relive again.

Being Raffles Chorale’s first live comeback since 2019, dozens of Rafflesians, friends, and families of performers eagerly streamed into LT2 to get a glimpse of what they’d missed for the last three years.

Raffles Chorale 2022: Across The Horizon

This concert, which was highly anticipated by a full house of attendees, was preceded by the gradual hushing of an otherwise highly active audience awaiting the performance with bated breath. The curtains swept apart to reveal a soft wash of vivid colours, strikingly reminiscent of a sunset. The lecture theatre hung in stillness as all eyes fixed onto the choristers on stage. With a flourish of a hand, the concert began.
