I’ll admit, this one’s a bit of a dilemma. At first glance, the very notion of pursuing Chinese in RI seems akin to that of a forced arranged marriage—why would you ever willingly subject yourself to it? 

However, if you find yourself enjoying the occasional CDrama, 综艺节目 (reality tv shows), or even get hooked on the guilty pleasure of reading 网络小说 (web novels), you’ve come to the right spot! Rest assured that the study of H2 CLL is a far cry from the monotony of standardised answering structures that could be inserted into every Higher Chinese O Level question.

RI200 Special: A Glimpse into Evolving Subjects

“How do you pronounce PCME? Like, if HELM is pronounced HEL-M then is PCME pronounced PICK-ME? Also, what does PICK ME actually mean?” asked Physics teacher Mr Harapan Ong, in a commendable attempt to relate the established with the new and trendy. 

Such an attitude is certainly worth extending to our school’s 200-year-old history. In particular, we shine a spotlight on how some of the A-Level subjects offered today have changed to fit our current times and to prepare students for the future. Digging deeper into the stories of these subjects, we piece together what it really means to be honouring the past by inspiring the future.

CCA Previews ‘23: Film Society

CCA Previews ‘23: Swimming

Founded in 1924, Raffles Swimming is among the oldest and most established CCAs in Raffles Institution. Some notable alumni from the Raffles Institution Swim Team (RIST) include  Goh Chok Tong, the former Prime Minister of Singapore between 1990 and 2004, and Quah Ting Wen, Olympian and 26-time gold medalist at the Southeast Asian Games between 2007 and 2022.
