After recent feedback from the school community, we have withdrawn our recent April Fools’ article, “Waffle Woes: Diets of a Better Age”, from our site, and have henceforth decided to discontinue our tradition of writing April Fool’s articles. Press would furthermore like to sincerely apologise for any distress or confusion previous articles may have caused.
Right now, more than ever, the problem of fake news matters in our society, and it is important for us not to trivialize this issue. In our vision, Raffles Press aims to discuss issues that Rafflesians care about through news informed by a plurality of opinions, experiences, and perspectives. Lying – spreading misinformation – is neither funny nor entertaining, and it is crucial for us to maintain our journalistic integrity on all days of the year.
For a school press, we have a duty to our readers to uphold certain standards of accuracy and truthfulness – a duty which should not and cannot be compromised for the sake of a few laughs. Obviously, it was a mistake on our part.
Once again, we would like to apologise for any damage done. Looking forward, Press will seek to take a more serious and heartfelt approach to journalism.
Sincere thanks to all who have provided their valued input, as we strive to better ourselves as a Press in the future.
